About us

Asian Voices in International Strategic Studies (AVISS) is an independent forum dedicated to amplifying Asian perspectives in global strategic debates. Too often, international discourse is dominated by Western narratives; AVISS seeks to bring balance by highlighting the insights, priorities, and experiences of Asia.
We focus on research and analysis in geopolitics, diplomacy, foreign policy, and regional dynamics across South Asia, East Asia, and the Indo-Pacific. Our goal is to provide clear, policy-relevant knowledge that bridges academia and policymaking while addressing the most pressing strategic challenges of today.
AVISS serves as both a publishing platform and a space for dialogue. We regularly feature opinion editorials, essays, policy briefs, and research papers, alongside events such as seminars, workshops, and conferences. These initiatives create opportunities for meaningful exchange between scholars, policymakers, and practitioners.
What sets AVISS apart is inclusivity. We welcome contributions from established experts as well as young researchers and early-career analysts. By bringing diverse voices together, we aim to generate fresh thinking and region-centric solutions that enrich global debates.
Through its publications and activities, AVISS aspires to be a credible hub for ideas, fostering understanding of Asia’s role in shaping international strategic studies and strengthening global policy conversations with an authentically Asian outlook.

Mission Statement

At Asian Voices in International Strategic Studies (AVISS), our mission is to amplify Asian perspectives in global strategic debates. Too often, mainstream scholarship reflects predominantly Western viewpoints, overlooking the diversity of ideas emerging from Asia. AVISS seeks to change this by providing a platform for rigorous, policy-oriented, and practical analysis of geopolitics, strategy, and foreign policy. We aim to bridge the gap between academia and policymaking by offering region-centric insights into contemporary global challenges. By welcoming contributions from both seasoned experts and early-career analysts, AVISS is committed to fostering inclusive dialogue, strengthening intellectual exchange, and ensuring that Asian scholarship plays a central role in shaping international strategic studies.

Our Vision

The vision of AVISS is to emerge as a leading hub for strategic thought shaped by Asian voices. We aspire to create a space where diverse scholars and practitioners contribute innovative ideas, foster critical debate, and shape narratives in international strategic studies. Our vision extends beyond producing research; we seek to cultivate new voices, empower regional expertise, and highlight Asia’s growing influence in global policymaking. AVISS envisions a world where global discourse reflects a truly multipolar understanding of strategy, one that values perspectives from all regions equally. By championing inclusivity and academic excellence, we aim to broaden the foundations of strategic scholarship and strengthen Asia’s role in the future of international affairs.
