Types of Submissions

  • Policy Papers: In-depth, evidence-based research offering analysis and policy recommendations (3,000–6,000 words).

  • Strategic Briefs: Concise, timely insights into fast-moving developments (1,000–2,000 words).

  • Op-Eds / Commentaries: Opinion-driven, accessible pieces on current debates (800–1,200 words).

  • Essays / Research Notes: Academic-style contributions with original perspectives on security and strategy (2,000–4,000 words).

Review Process

  • Initial Screening: Our editorial team reviews all submissions for relevance, originality, and clarity.

  • Peer / Expert Review: Longer or more substantial pieces (Policy Papers, Essays) may be sent to subject experts for external review.

  • Editing: AVISS may make editorial adjustments for clarity, formatting, and style—but core arguments remain yours.

  • Publication Decision: You’ll receive notification of acceptance, required revisions, or rejection within 2–4 weeks after submission.

Ethics & Disclaimer

  • Plagiarism: AVISS has zero tolerance for plagiarism. All submissions must be original, properly cited.

  • Accuracy: Authors are responsible for ensuring all facts and claims are correct.

  • Ownership: Authors retain copyright, but grant AVISS the rights to publish and distribute their work.

  • Disclaimer: Views expressed in contributions are those of the authors alone, and do not represent the official position of AVISS, its advisory board, or partners.

Submission Guidelines

AVISS welcomes original, timely, and well-argued contributions on traditional and non-traditional security issues. We encourage submissions from scholars, analysts, practitioners, and students who can bring evidence-based insights to an informed but broad readership.

Key Requirements

Length

  • Op-Eds: 800–1,200 words.

  • Essays: 1,500–2,500 words.
    (Articles outside this range will be returned for revision.)

Exclusivity

  • Submissions must be original and not under review elsewhere.

  • If your piece is being considered by another publication, please inform us.

Bio

  • Include a short professional bio (2–3 sentences) highlighting your expertise and background.

Citation

  • Use hyperlinks to credible sources.

  • Footnotes and endnotes are not accepted.

  • Wikipedia and unreliable sources are discouraged.

Tone & Style

  • Analytical yet accessible and respectful in critique.

  • Use active voice.

  • Avoid research-paper style writing.

Editorial & Review Process

  • All submissions are subject to editing for clarity, structure, tone, and accessibility. Authors are expected to address editorial feedback promptly; otherwise, the article will be put in queue to give chance to the next submission.

  • Authors should be prepared to provide sources or clarifications if requested.

  • Editors may adjust titles and presentation for readability and promotion.

Accuracy & Originality

  • Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of facts, names, dates, and figures.

  • Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Only original work will be considered.

  • Any use of generative AI tools during research or drafting must be disclosed. Articles primarily generated by AI will not be published.

Format

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, single-spaced, left-aligned.

  • Provide section headings in bold; subsections italicized if needed.

  • Spell out acronyms at first mention.
